​​S&A Group Holdings Ltd, based at Brook Farm in Marden, Hereford, needed a compliant and efficient solution for disposing of a range of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE). This included various outdated IT assets and a large volume of commercial refrigeration units. The client required a quick turnaround, professional service, and full environmental compliance.

The Solution

​FridgeRecycling.uk arranged the seamless collection of mixed IT equipment, followed by the removal of 4 pallets of commercial fridges (16 in total). All items were collected promptly and transported to authorised treatment facilities, with full waste transfer notes and documentation provided.

To support the client’s ongoing WEEE management, we also supplied a secure onsite container at Brook Farm for safe storage of electrical waste. This container will be serviced and swapped on an ad hoc basis, ensuring compliance and flexibility without the need for regular scheduling.

Overview

​​In a recent project, FridgeRecycling.uk partnered with The Royal Pavilion & Museums Trust to manage and responsibly dispose of Commercial Fridges, WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) and hazardous waste across two of their key sites in Brighton: Preston Manor and Brighton Museum & Art Gallery.
This project demonstrated the Trust’s ongoing commitment to responsible environmental practices and safe waste management.

Scope of Work

Fridges & WEEE Waste Collection – Brighton Museum & Art Gallery

​​Our local WEEE team collected a variety of redundant electrical appliances and components, including:
1 x Large catering fridge
1 x Double drinks fridge
1 x Under-counter fridge
1 x Turbo oven
​
A range of smaller electrical items, including:
Microwaves
Vacuum cleaners
Computer monitors/screens
Lighting parts
General electrical sundries (filling approximately 1–2 full collection cages)

Hazardous Waste Collection – Preston Manor

​​A collection of small quantities of hazardous waste was completed, including:
Surgical spirit
Detergents
Cleaning fluids
Bleach
Mould remover
Disinfectants
Assorted aerosols
Out-of-date substances
All items were removed in compliance with UK hazardous waste regulations and safely transported by our licensed partner for certified disposal.

Fridge and Waste Recycling Process & Environmental Impact

​​All WEEE items are sorted, dismantled, and recycled at approved treatment facilities (AATFs). For this project:

Large fridges and catering appliances were degassed to remove refrigerants before metal and plastic components were separated for material recovery.
Screens and monitors were handled separately to ensure proper extraction of hazardous components (such as lead or mercury).
​
Smaller electrical items and lighting were sorted by material type, with plastics, metals, and circuit boards reclaimed for recycling or reuse wherever possible.
​
For the hazardous materials, each substance was:
Categorised according to COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) guidelines.
Contained in appropriate UN-approved containers.
Treated or incinerated at licensed facilities to eliminate environmental risk.

Outcome

​The Fridge removal, WEEE and Hazardous waste collection was carried out efficiently with minimal disruption to the Trust’s operations. All regulatory documentation was supplied, including waste transfer notes and hazardous waste consignment notes, to ensure full compliance and traceability.
